Save Iranian school girls
2022 – Sydney – Australia
The Iranian schoolgirls mass poisoning refers to a series of chemical attacks targeting students in dozens of schools across Iran since November 2022, beginning at the Isfahan University of Technology. Reports suggest thousands of students have been affected, with Iran’s Ministry of Health confirming the use of an inhaled stimulant.
While Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has called for severe punishment for the perpetrators, Amnesty International accuses the Iranian government of orchestrating these attacks as revenge against schoolgirls refusing to wear the mandatory hijab. The cause of the poisonings remains controversial, with some attributing it to mass psychogenic illness (MPI) and others pointing to a government-led crackdown.
Iranian authorities initially dismissed most cases as stress and anxiety-related, but later claimed to have arrested over 100 individuals. However, their April 2023 report denied toxic substances were involved, attributing the incidents to mass hysteria and malingering, a claim met with skepticism by independent organizations. Human rights groups and governments continue to call for an independent investigation into the attacks.
